- <p> Will the real Bob Newhart please stand up? Sure he will.
- After 14 seasons of sit-coms, button-down Bob is returning to
- his roots. Next week he'll be the host of a Showtime comedy
- special from Montreal, his first stand-up gig on TV since 1981,
- and take to the road with some 40 live performances over the
- next year. When Newhart, 60, started as a comic 30 years ago,
- it was hard to kill time. Now he has a laptop computer and taps
- into a data base with fascinating facts. Explains the master
- of dead-pan: "There are 261 miles between Albany and Buffalo.
- That's good to know." Oh.
